Nokia Lumia 1020 officially announced, 41MP, ZEISS lens, OIS, Pro Camera app

So, we finally have it official. Nokia in the #ZoomReinvented event in New York announced the much awaited successor to the 808 PureView, Nokia Lumia 1020 is here to amaze you all with it’s photo taking capabilities.

The phone, as we know, packs a 41MP Camera sensor made with 6 (rather than 5 in 808) ZEISS lens assembly. The most asked Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) is also included in the phone with loads of improvements, Nokia calls it ‘Second generation OIS technology’. And yes, the Nokia Pro Camera app brings an amazing and intuitive camera user interface to Lumia. There’s an ‘upgraded’ Xenon flash and an LED light for capturing moments in very dark situations.

The rumour that we heard earlier that Lumia 1020 will take two photos at a time. This is indeed the real thing. The device produces two photos on pressing the camera shutter button, one in full resolution for later reframing and shows a 5MP oversampled image ready to be shared easily on any social networks. The phone also allows the user the create different images from a single image by just zooming in and setting the desired angle.

Besides all these features, Lumia 1020 also has Nokia’s Rich Recording technology to record distortion free stereo sound.

Nokia imaging team have developed a separate SDK for developers to built apps to exploit more of the imaging prowess of Nokia Lumia. Go here to know more about it. Hipstamatic, Path, Yelp and CNN, etc announced new apps that are taking advantage of Lumia 1020 imaging power. Plus, new and enhanced HD versions of the well-loved Cinemagraph and PhotoBeamer apps to match and show-off the capabilities of this amazing device.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 will be available in yellow, white and black. It will ship first to the USA on AT&T, with sales expected to start on July 26th at $299.99 with a contract.

It will arrive in China and Western Europe this quarter. Nokia plans to ship an exclusive variant of the device with Telefonica in selected European and Latin American markets. Other markets will be announced shortly.
