Nokia rebrands Nokia Maps to HERE Maps

Nokia had already done the rebranding of their Mapping services and applications to the HERE platform, but this MWC, they announced this officially on the bigger stage. Nokia Maps and other maps based applications from Nokia, will now come with the name ‘HERE’, like HERE Maps, HERE Drive (with regional navigation), HERE Drive+ (with global navigation), HERE Transit and HERE City (for Nokia City Lens). Nokia says that by this rebranding, they can reach and serve many other mobile platforms rather than just providing them on Nokia Lumia.

Apparently after this announcement, the updates to the existing Nokia Lumias and other Windows Phones have been pushed to download.

The new HERE experiences are connected and work seamlessly together, making it easy to transition from walking to driving to public transport as you move along your day. In particular, from HERE Maps you can launch HERE Drive(+) or HERE Transit if needed. In HERE Transit you now get a map overview of nearby stations and stops, and when you need walk navigation to get to the stop or to the final destination, you can start HERE Maps from there.

Nokia also announced that they are opening the APIs for developers necessary to create applications around their Location, Imaging and Entertainment platforms. As a result, Nokia, via some exclusive partnerships with company like Dreamworks, Burton, Foursquare, etc, will be delivering some wonderful apps to the Nokia Lumia smartphones in the near future.

Nokia announced that with more than 130,000 Applications now available on Windows Phone, it is opening up its APIs in imaging, location and music to encourage developers to build unique and innovative application experiences for Lumia. New apps from Burton, GoPro and FourSquare are already taking advantage of these opportunities, while Nokia announced a new cooperation with Dreamworks Animations SKG. The cooperation will see Dreamworks developers use Nokia APIs to deliver rich, interactive entertainment experiences, exclusively for Nokia devices, starting from the second half of 2013.
