WP7.8 update to begin rolling out officially from 31st Jan ?

Its been quite a while since we first got to know about the Windows Phone 7.8 and the features it will bring to the existing Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) smartphones, but there wasn’t any official word on exactly when it will be made available to these devices, neither from Microsoft, nor from Nokia or any other OEMs. But today we have a leak. Windows Phone Columbia, on their facebook page, has posted that the update will start rolling out officially from 31st of January.

They posted on their page in their own language but there’s an english translation to help those who don’t know their language. They says:

As of January 31 and during the first quarter of 2013 some phones with Windows Phone 7.5 will be receiving 7.8 update… Happy weekend.” (Translated by Bing)

So this was it. We cannot say anything about this leak/confirmation just yet. Lets hope that the update will hit the old Lumias (Lumia 900, 800, 710, 610, 510) and other windows phones across the world as soon as it can.

If you’re a Nokia Lumia owner and resides in India then you can upgrade your phone with this WP7.8 update by going to the nearest Nokia Care Centre, they will install the update for free.

In case you don’t know about what features the Windows Phone 7.8 update will bring, then see them below.
– Resizable Live Tiles
– Bluetooth File Transfer
– New accent colours
– The option to select Google as the default search provider in Internet Explorer
– New boot screen
